We are now less than a week away from Christmas, but as we all know, most people start the Holiday season a bit too early. Before the pots and plates of Thanksgiving are out of the dishwasher, you can see people setting up their trees and inflatable lawn ornaments. While the lights are dazzling and a decorated tree is a sight to see, with every Holiday season, we’re reminded here at the Caustic Camp that most of the music associated with the season, frankly, sucks. The commercialization of Holiday music has drowned the genre in sugary pop and false imagery, removing the authentic warmth meant to drive the Holiday season.

For this week’s Caustic Commentary, we wanted to focus on new holiday music that doesn’t suck. The type of songs that truly encapsulate the nuances of this season rather than emphasize the blunt greed of it all. Welcome to Caustic Commentary: Holiday Songs That Don’t Suck.

Check out Glide’s picks for the most refreshing Holiday music of 2024 below.

Reggie Watts – “White Christmas”

Reggie Sings: Your Favorite Christmas Classics, Volume 1 – EP

The multifaceted and always entertaining Reggie Watts tackles three holiday standards on his foray into the sonic Christmas spirit. Reggie Sings: Your Favorite Christmas Classics, Volume 1 finds Watts adding a smokey jazz club-style flair to tunes like “Christmas Time Is Here” and the standout from the three-track outing, “White Christmas.” Watts’s interpretation of this song is cheeky yet moving, as warm piano keys elevate the swaying melodies.

Robert Glasper – “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (Feat. Doobie Powell)

In December

Last year, award-winning jazz producer/keyboardist Robert Glasper released his In December holiday album, and he took 2024 to revisit the project and add a new tune to the already unforgettable outing. The deluxe version of In December adds a stirring rendition of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.” Glasper’s elegant piano work acts as the falling snowflakes, and Doobie Powell’s soaring vocals are the pine tree they stick to, creating an aesthetic holiday portrait to get lost in.

DJ Harrison – “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”

A DJ Harrison Xmas

While this project was initially released in 2010, 2024 was the year DJ Harrison finally released his underappreciated yet utterly refreshing Christmas album on streaming platforms. A DJ Harrison Xmas captures the warmth of lo-fi and the looseness of jazz as Harrison pieces together bedroom-style instrumentals that capture the whimsy of the season. Harrison’s version of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” is a quint arrangement driven by lush synths and juxtaposing drum chaos.

Sloppy Scales – “Sweet Baby Jesus”

This Machine Mocks Fascits: The Sloppy Scales Songbook

After leaving their life as a rodeo clown in the past to pick up music, Sloppy Scales has been fearlessly airing out his grievances with the modern world across multiple singles in 2024. Those singles have found a home on This Machine Mocks Fascits: The Sloppy Scales Songbook, the debut project from the artist. “Sweet Baby Jesus” is a groovy take on nostalgic blues and an original Christmas tune with Sloppy Scales navigating an animated arrangement and delivering harsh realities.

Madi Diaz – “Kid on Christmas”

Single

Singer/songwriter Madi Diaz is on a clear path to the top of modern music as she slowly builds a discography that showcases her lyrical prowess and fearless sonic explorations. After releasing her stunning Weird Faith LP in 2024, Diaz wraps up the year with a downtrodden acoustic Holiday single that employs a simplistic beauty. “Kid on Christmas” is a moving example of Diaz’s poetic songwriting. She croons over minimalistic instrumentation, penning a longing that finds the artist reminiscing about simpler times around the holiday season.

Dawes – “Christmas Tree in the Window”

Single

Dawes has had one hell of a 2024, racking up critical acclaim for their fantastic Oh Brother LP. The band closes out the year with “Christmas Tree in the Window,” a moving tale of finding solace in the togetherness of Winter. The storytelling tracks put the listener in the shoes of someone attempting to make ends meet by dastardly means, only to be deterred by the smell of hot cocoa and shimmering lights hanging from trees. The band crafts a piano-driven arrangement built on the same sentimentality of the songwriting, making the tune even more palpable.

SNACKTIME – “This Christmas”

Home for the Holidays (Live at WXPN)

Philadelphia’s SNACKTIME is proving to be one of the most innovative and unpredictable additions to the city’s thriving music scene in quite some time, and their new holiday double-single shows their genuinely diverse sound. The band took to Philly’s WXPN to record staggering versions of the modern classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and their jovial take on “This Christmas.” The latter finds the band injecting deep grooves and jazzy fireworks into the Christmas classic as SNACKTIME wraps up a stellar year with a danceable bow.

Amanda Whiting – “Skating”

A Christmas Cwtch

Jazz harpist Amanda Whiting is becoming an inspiring voice in modern jazz. She follows her 2024 LP with A Christmas Cwtch, a 14-song outing in which Whiting reimagines Christmas classics with new arrangements, putting her experimental tendencies aside for a sinfully sweet pack of cheer. One of the singles from the project, “Skating,” finds Whiting’s nimble harp prowess, creating a gentle Winter breeze that forces the drums to sway along.

Laufey – “Winter Wonderland”

A Very Laufey Christmas: The Santa Baby Edition – EP

Laufey has officially broken through the ranks of modern jazz with the release of her Bewitched LP and its subsequent deluxe version. Now, the vocalist/multi-instrumentalist sets her sights on the Holiday season. Her new Christmas EP features five tunes that will shoot you into the spirit of the season via gentle vocals and lighthearted instrumentation. Laufey’s take on “Winter Wonderland” crackles like a roaring fire or an old vinyl as her vocals float over droning horns and sleigh bells.

BOYR!OT – “I Hate The Holidays”

Single

The melodic and aggressive punk of BOYR!OT takes on the form of The Grinch as they express their disdain for the season in an infectious manner. “I Hate The Holidays” is the anti-seasonal anthem for those who don’t find jingle bells all that musical. The duo takes their youthful energy and pop-punk prowess to craft a punchy single that aims at the negatives of this time of year, including busy shopping malls and underwhelming Christmas music.

Navigating the vibrant world of real money online casinos can feel like stepping into a dazzling maze. With countless platforms promising big wins and thrilling experiences, it’s easy to get swept up in the hype. But how do you sift through the noise to find a trustworthy site where your money and time are well-spent? Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, understanding the key factors that make an online casino reliable is crucial. Let’s dive into the essentials of identifying credible real money online casinos without falling for the glittering facade.

Understanding Licensing and Regulation

One of the first things to check when exploring real money online casinos is their licensing and regulation. Reputable platforms proudly display their licenses from recognized gambling authorities. These licenses ensure that the casino operates under strict guidelines, providing a safe and fair gaming environment. Without proper licensing, a casino’s legitimacy comes into question, putting your funds at risk. It’s like entering a game where the rules are never clear—you’re better off avoiding the chaos.

Regulatory bodies like the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission, and others set high standards that casinos must meet to obtain and maintain their licenses. These standards cover everything from game fairness and security measures to responsible gambling practices. A licensed casino undergoes regular audits and checks to ensure compliance, offering players peace of mind. When a casino is transparent about its licensing information, it signals a commitment to honesty and integrity, which is essential in the realm of real money online casinos.

Moreover, a licensed casino often provides avenues for dispute resolution, ensuring that any issues can be addressed fairly. This layer of protection is invaluable, especially when real money is involved. It’s not just about the games; it’s about knowing that the platform you’re engaging with is held accountable by reputable authorities. So, before you get caught up in flashy promotions or enticing bonuses, take a moment to verify the casino’s licensing status. It’s a small step that can save you from potential headaches down the line.

Evaluating Security Measures

When it comes to real money online casinos, security should never be an afterthought. After all, you’re entrusting these platforms with your personal and financial information. Reliable casinos employ advanced security measures to protect their players. Look for casinos that use SSL encryption, which ensures that your data is transmitted securely and cannot be intercepted by malicious actors. Without robust security, your sensitive information could be vulnerable to breaches, making it a critical factor in your decision-making process.

In addition to encryption, reputable casinos implement strict privacy policies. These policies outline how your data is collected, used, and protected, ensuring your information is handled carefully. A trustworthy casino will never sell your data to third parties without your consent, and they’ll be transparent about their data management practices. This transparency builds trust, allowing you to focus on enjoying your gaming experience without worrying about your personal information being misused.

Furthermore, secure casinos often feature two-factor authentication (2FA) for an added layer of protection. This means that even if someone gains access to your password, they still need a second verification form to enter your account. It’s a simple yet effective way to enhance your account’s security, providing peace of mind when dealing with real money transactions. In real-money online casinos, prioritizing security is not just a good practice—it’s a necessity.

Assessing Game Fairness and Software Quality

Another crucial aspect to consider when choosing a real money online casino is the fairness and quality of its games. Reputable casinos use Random Number Generators (RNGs) to ensure that game outcomes are entirely random and unbiased. These RNGs are regularly tested and certified by independent auditing agencies, guaranteeing that the games are fair and that the house edge is clearly stated. Without this assurance, you could be playing a rigged game where the odds are stacked against you.

The software quality also plays a significant role in your overall gaming experience. Leading online casinos partner with top-tier software providers like Microgaming, NetEnt, and Playtech, known for their reliable and engaging games. High-quality software means smoother gameplay, better graphics, and a more immersive experience. It’s not just about having various games; it’s about ensuring that each game runs seamlessly and provides a fair chance of winning.

Moreover, a good online casino. like qbet casin, which we’ve recently reviewed, offers various games to cater to different preferences. Whether you’re into slots, table games, or live dealer experiences, having diverse options keeps the gaming experience fresh and exciting. It also indicates that the casino is serious about providing its players with a comprehensive and enjoyable platform. So, when evaluating real money online casinos, don’t just look at the quantity of games but also the quality and fairness they bring to the table.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I verify if an online casino is licensed and regulated?

You can verify an online casino’s licensing and regulation by checking the footer of their website, where they usually display their licensing information. Additionally, you can visit the official websites of recognized gambling authorities like the Malta Gaming Authority or the UK Gambling Commission to confirm the casino’s license status.

2. What security features should I look for in a real money online casino?

Look for SSL encryption, which protects your data during transmission, and check if the casino has a clear and comprehensive privacy policy. Additionally, features like two-factor authentication (2FA) add an extra layer of security to your account.

3. Why is game fairness important, and how is it ensured in online casinos?

Game fairness is crucial because it ensures that all players have an equal chance of winning. It is ensured through the use of Random Number Generators (RNGs) that are regularly tested and certified by independent auditing agencies, guaranteeing that game outcomes are random and unbiased.

We spent last week’s Caustic summarizing the exciting releases we had the pleasure of featuring on our weekly outing. Still, now it’s back to our regularly scheduled programming as we dove through the Caustic catacombs for our Best Of The Year list, a few brand new releases slipped by our peripheral. Our necks nearly snapped as a slew of releases crashed into the Caustic factory. Just when we thought things were winding down, solo material from accomplished bands and triumphant sonic shifts made their presence felt in the last weeks of 2024. We have collected some music released over the past two weeks to bring a Caustic filled with exhilarating new releases.

Check out Glide’s selections below for the best new releases of the past two weeks.

Cameron Winter – “Cancer of the Skull”

Heavy Metal

Geese frontman Cameron Winter released a beautifully off-kilter solo debut filled with Tom Waits-style balladry and vulnerable songwriting. Heavy Metal is far from an accurate descriptor of the album’s sound. The brooding piano keys emphasize the longing in Winter’s voice as the artist crafts a wonderfully weird and heartwrenching. “Cancer of the Skull” delivers vague yet vivid imagery as Winter’s acrobatic vocals navigate bouncing piano melodies in an ethereal yet wistful dance.

Smino – “Dear Fren”

Maybe in Nirvana

For his latest outing, St. Louis vocalist Smino dives headfirst into soulful melodies with his silk-lined Maybe in Nirvana LP. The artist’s abstract vocabulary is on full display as Smino soars over simplistic yet groovy arrangements for the artist’s most R&B-leaning outing yet. “Dear Fren” is a stand-out on this quick yet unforgettable album that finds the artist in a reflective mood.

Roc Marciano & The Alchemist – “Cryotherapy”

The Skeleton Key

Two of the most groundbreaking and prolific voices in modern Hip-hop combine forces once again as Roc Marciano and The Alchemist team up on The Skeleton Key. The hypnotic 10-track album is the follow-up to the duo’s sensational LP, The Elephant Man’s Bones, and finds the pair in a more minimalistic, artsy space. “Cryotherapy” features eerie vocal samples and whirling synths that get cut in half by Marciano’s booming baritone and luxurious wordplay.

Amen Dunes – “Italy Pop Punk”

Death Jokes II

For his final album under the Amen Dunes name, the multifaceted Damon McMahon revisits his recently released LP with a few tweaks. Death Jokes II is a remix effort from McMahon that is touted as the final album from his acclaimed side project. It features subtle tone and melody shifts from his 2024 album. “Italy Pop Punk is a brand-new tune with muted guitar melodies intertwining with thudding drums, and McMahon’s soulful vocals tie the subtle fusion work together beautifully.

Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre – “Thank You”

Missionary

Decades after their initial rise to the top of West Coast Hip-hop’s Mount Rushmore, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre once again combined forces on Missionary. The explosive 16-song album reminds us that the duo’s chemistry never left, as Snoop’s signature soothing vocals become alive over Dre’s neck-breaking drums. “Thank You” samples a soul classic that gets flipped into rapid-fire guitars that act as an infectious canvas for Snoop’s well-deserved braggadocious rhymes.

Baths – “Sea of Men”

Gut

For the first time in seven years, the multi-hyphenate Will Wiesenfeld will release music under Baths with the announcement of Guts. The artist’s long-awaited album is set to be released on February 21, and “Sea of Men” is our first preview of the anticipated release. The bubbly vocals snuggle beside the sugar-lined drums for a bright, pop-leaning single with poetic songwriting and unforgettable crescendoes.

Jim White & Trey Blake – “The Long Road Home”

Precious Bane

This week, Jim White and Trey Blake surprised the folk-rock world with the announcement of Precious Bane. Their collaborative effort is set to be released on January 31, and the hauntingly beautiful “The Long Road Home” is our first single. A toe-tapping tune with dark undertones, “The Long Road Home” features jaw-dropping guitar sections that blend with the soulful passion of the vocals in a splash of awe-inspiring color.

Lucero – “In Lonesome Times”

Lucero Unplugged

Ben Nichols and Rick Steff of Lucero are gearing up to release an acoustic retrospective of their catalog with the release of Lucero Unplugged. The expansive project promises stripped-down versions of tunes from the band’s sprawling catalog, and the deep cut “In Lonesome Times” is one of our first previews of the album. The melancholy lyrics have become even more complex as this cut from Lucero’s debut record, with its downtrodden guitars and blunt yet poetic songwriting, becomes even more palpable in an acoustic setting.

Horsegirl – “Julie”

Phonetics On and On

For the second single from their anticipated new album, Horsegirl employs a subtle ambiance and nuanced simplicity on “Julie.” The single will be on Phonetics On and On, the band’s latest album, which will be released on February 14, and is a dark sonic shift from the previously released single. The repetitive guitar chords emphasize the monotone melodies, giving the single a horrifying yet endlessly enticing minimalism. With two drastically different singles, Phonetics On and On promises to be a landmark release for Horsegirl.

Pink Siifu & Kal Banx – “WHOUWITHHO+”

BLACK’!ANTIQUE

The prolific vocalist Pink Siifu has officially announced his next release, and it’s coming in the form of a proper solo outing. BLACK’!ANTIQUE is set to be released on January 27, and the dark yet bouncy “WHOUWITHHO+” accompanies the announcement. Siifu’s vocals are as cartoonish as ever, as droning synths and danceable grooves anchor the artist’s unpredictable songwriting and delivery to earth.

Reb & the Good News – “Pressure”

Single

Get lost in Reb & the Good News’s groovy funk as they return triumphantly with “Pressure.” The new single has vocals that cascade around loose melodies for a danceable effort and a catchy and masterful work of fusion. With a radio-ready lead single, Reb & the Good News pave a soulful lane for themselves on what is already shaping up to be a beautiful LP.

It has been a long, beautiful journey for Rap/Hip Hop. What was once described as “not real music” has become a dominant figure in pop culture and produced some of the most innovative musical minds the world has ever seen. In 2024, a cornucopia of phenomenally entertaining Hip-hop washed up on shore in a tidal wave of boom-bap, modern flair, and soulful undertones. The long list of Hip-hop releases emphasizes the sentiment that Rap & Hip Hop is far from dead, and one could argue that it is the most vibrant it has been in years. We saw releases from the genre’s significant stars break through the radio airwaves while the burgeoning underground delivered spectacular and innovative projects. If you think there is no good Hip-hop, you’re just not looking hard enough.

Glide is proud to present our selections for the ten best Rap/Hip Hop albums of 2024. Arranged in alphabetical order, we dug deep to give you what we feel is the best possible summary of the genre’s busy year. You can check out our complete list of picks below.

Blu & Evidence – Los Angeles

Blu has had an incredibly busy 2024. With the release of five albums and a book of poetry, the crown jewel of the West Coast artist’s prolific year comes as a love letter to his hometown. Los Angeles is entirely produced by fellow West Coast icon Evidence, as the producer’s hazy instrumentals act as a vibrant canvas for Blu’s face-melting songwriting. These 13 songs do more than salute the city’s storied Hip-hop history; they bridge the gap between the current burgeoning scene and the similarly-thriving landscapes of the city’s scene. With features ranging from legends like Kokane to more modern lane-pavers like MED, Blu and Evidence successfully craft an album that is undeniably their own while keeping an eye on their influences. The combination of Blu’s vivid storytelling and Evidence’s hard-hitting instrumentals places the listener right in the middle of Los Angeles as they guide you through a history lesson on their hometown while delivering colorful commentary.

Common & Pete Rock – The Auditorium, Vol. 1

In the summer, two Hip-hop legends breathed new life into their styles as Common sounds as refreshing as ever over Pete Rock’s ever-evolving production stylings. The Auditorium, Vol. 1, has the two titans of the genre crafting soulful examples of their prowess. Common’s bellowing voice delivers uplifting lyrics, and Rock lays down jazzy undertones that elevate the album’s sentiment. On paper, this album was destined to be a smash hit, but no one could’ve predicted The Auditorium would sound as fantastically nostalgic yet undeniably modern as it turned out. Rock’s nuanced sample techniques and Common’s relaxed flows harken back to their earlier output, but miraculously, those same elements make the album sound stubbornly present. Common and Rock achieved a delicate balance that has been awarded Grammy nods and multiple year-end list placements; the project’s longevity doesn’t seem to be dying down anytime soon.

Chuck Strangers – A Forsaken Lover’s Plea

After spending years bubbling in the underground and honing his vast array of talents, producer/rapper Chuck Strangers emerged with a statement piece in 2024. A Forsaken Lover’s Plea solidifies Strangers’s style as his own with his dark baritones juxtaposing jazzy keys, staggering sample flips, and moving drum patterns. Strangers achieved the sought-after balance of employing his influences without sounding anything like them, a lesson a lot of modern Hip-hop could learn from. For Strangers, it’s just another day. The quick yet potent 18-song album has Strangers sounding lively and more confident than on his previous releases, marking a turning point in his artistry. The shift is nuanced but made a world of difference for Strangers. A Forsaken Lover’s Plea is a poetic love letter to Stranger’s long journey and finds the artist at the mountain top waving a flag no one can take from him.

Doechii – Alligator Bites Never Heal

One of 2024’s MVPs and break-out stars, Florida’s Doechii, took over the year with an unpredictable style that the world’s greatest impressionist would struggle to copy. After grabbing the internet’s attention with two impressive mixtapes, Alligator Bites Never Heals cements the rising star as one of the brightest and most promising voices to come out of the South in a very long time. The artist’s acrobatic vocals are almost cartoonish in how they flip from one style to the next in seconds, but keeping you on your toes is exactly how Doechii likes it. As the artist exclaimed on the stand-out track, “Boom Bap,” narrowing down her style to one word is doing a disservice to her nuanced artistry. Whether she’s telling tales of past relationships, praising her Southern roots, or simply rapping until she’s out of breath, a refreshing charisma shines through. Alligator Bites Never Heal is the first sun ray to peek over the horizon. Doechii is an undeniably eccentric star who seems hellbent on taking over Hip-hop, and her first outing achieved this with flying colors.

Kendrick Lamar – GNX

After butting heads and emerging victorious with fellow Hip-hop powerhouse Drake, Kendrick Lamar puts a bow on his MVP year with an album that beautifully balances vulnerability and homage. GNX seamlessly transitions from energetic nods to West Coast tropes to confessional storytelling as Lamar continues to explore new territories without losing focus of his goals. The 12-song album came in a buzzer-beater moment at the end of November, releasing in the middle of a Friday with almost no promotion behind it. With features ranging from SZA to up-and-comers like AzChike and Dody6, Lamar capitalizes on the media frenzy he stirred up with an album that proves the artist is far from reaching his final artistic form.

Mach-Hommy – #RICHAXXHAITIAN

Don’t let the over-the-top album title fool you. Mach-Hommy is crafting some of the purest and most innovative Hip-hop in modern times. The prolific and ground-breaking artist took 2024 to release an opus of sorts with #RICHAXXHAITIAN, a journey through the warping rap stylings of the mysterious figure. With his signature bandana perched right on his nose, Hommy navigates off-kilter instrumentals to deliver his incomparable rhyme schemes as he shifts through his past to emerge with something entirely new. Hommy makes creating such an awe-inspiring LP look easy, but underneath the surface, a colorful complexity instantly captures your attention. With features ranging from KAYTRANADA to Black Thought, #RICHAXXHAITIAN only further proves what we long-time fans of Hommy knew: He is a pure Hip-hop artist unafraid to venture into uncharted waters and is seemingly unbothered by how criminally underrated he is. If there is one album every Hip-hop head should give a spin before the year ends, it is Mach-Hommy’s #RICHAAXXHAITIAN

Rapsody – Please Don’t Cry

After what felt like a long wait, Rapsody returned in 2024 with Please Don’t Cry. The idea of an “underrated artist” gets thrown around a lot in this busy internet-driven atmosphere. Still, if there is anyone who deserves your undivided attention and praise, it’s Rapsody. For far too long, she has been releasing impressive LP after impressive LP, but there is something clearly different about Please Don’t Cry. There is a poetic vulnerability that drives these 22 songs. Even on the rhyme-heavy, up-tempo moments like “Raw” or “Back In My Bag,” Rapsody finds herself as hungry as ever. Even with plenty of assists from mainstream legends like Lil Wayne and Erykah Badu, you eagerly await to hear how Rapsody will approach each instrumental. In an era of short attention spans, Please Don’t Cry stands at a whopping 22 songs that somehow feel like they go back far too quickly. Rapsody never loses your attention as the artist balances melodic hooks and venomous verses on what is sure to be considered a modern-day classic.

Roc Marciano – Marciology

It is time to give Roc Marciano his flowers. After building one of the most impressive discographies in modern Hip-hop, ranging from albums fully produced by legends like The Alchemist to entirely self-produced outings, the rapper/producer released some of the most honed and eccentric music of his career on Marciology. Marciano’s diabolical vocal cadence can be heard at home over any type of instrumental, and that strength is on full display in this 14-song album. “Tapeworm” employs subtle psychedelia that elevates the luxurious storytelling elements, while “Higher Self” is a moody and intimidating stand-out with Marciano’s smooth flows soaring over silky strings. Whatever arena you throw him in, Marciano will out-rap just about anyone you put him up against. Marciology feels like a retrospective of all the transformations Roc Marciano’s style has undergone in his decades-long career, and it’s clear the artist’s pen is nowhere near tired.

ScHoolboy Q – Blue Lips

ScHoolboy Q releases his most daring and rewarding album in a shocking left-turn lined with staggering experimentation. Blue Lips is the result of fearless artistry blending with a veteran studio dweller as Q solidifies himself as an innovative voice whose prowess has caught up with his lofty visions. The album transitions from punk-influenced bangers to vulnerable jazz to West Coast Hip-hop nostalgia as the unassuming mastermind filters his influences through his kaleidoscope-like visions. These risks are anchored to earth via Q’s acrobatic vocal stylings. All over Blue Lips, the artist stretches his flows from soaring falsettos to deep, intimidating baritones. The writing is blunt, but that’s because Q explores a lifetime of emotions and whittles them down to 18 mind-bending examples of pure artistry. It is finally time for Q to get his flowers, and after Blue Lips, his position in Hip-hop reaches undeniable heights.

Your Old Droog – Movie

“And y’all got no choice; you have to mention me as the premier counter-culture artist of the century,” raps Droog on “Mercury Thermometers.” Of all the head-spinning bars delivered on Your Old Droog’s Movie, this one summarizes the artist’s headspace the most. Droog has long proven himself as one of the most prolific and hard-hitting writers in modern Hip-hop, and a cinematic album like his 2024 release cements him as such. For 18 spellbinding tracks lined with nostalgic nods to Hip-hop and contemporary references, Droog seamlessly navigates neck-breaking drums to deliver his ever-refreshing perspective. Tracks like the aforementioned “Mercury Thermometers” and “Crescent Moon” are hook-less examples of Droog’s dominance over the English language. At the same time, “I Think I Love Her” and “Yodi Dodi” prove the artist’s ability to craft catchy hooks. Movie is a sprawling yet honed effort from a young veteran as Droog bullies his way into the top five conversations with nothing but pure Hip-hop.

Social casino games started growing into a cultural phenomenon, a mixture of the thrill of gambling, the ease of casual gaming, and the creativity of the content. A particular niche in the digital entertainment landscape was carved out, appealing to a varied audience and reshaping attitudes toward online game engagement. Social casinos ignited a mix of community, competition, and risk-free gambling that redefined gaming.

The Appeal of Social Casino Games

Social casino games are unique in that they provide the excitement of gambling at a casino without the financial risk. Using this type of game, players can enjoy popularly known casino-style games like slots, poker, and roulette with virtual tokens to further minimize the risk and create a low-stakes environment that focuses on fun and social interaction.

Platforms like an online social casino attract a wide demographic, from casual gamers to seasoned casino enthusiasts. Features like leaderboards, multiplayer modes, and in-game achievements foster a sense of community and competition, keeping users engaged and coming back for more.

Social Casinos and Pop Culture Integration

Social casinos have done a great job of incorporating facets of pop culture into their games. From movie- and music-themed slot machines to celebrity partnerships, these games provide something truly unique for the gamer.

By connecting players to their favorite cultural touchpoints, social casinos deepen user engagement and position themselves as entertainment hubs. These integrations not only entertain but also introduce new audiences to the gaming experience. NineWin Casino offers a wide variety of engaging social casino games, allowing players to experience the thrill of classic casino favorites while connecting with friends and other players in a risk-free environment. “

The Role of Technology in Shaping the Trend

Advancements in technology have furthered the rise of social casino games. Mobile gaming made the platforms accessible at any time and from anywhere, with social media integration allowing players to share successes, invite friends, and challenge opponents. Real-time updates and interactivity work together to create an immersive experience that rivals real casinos.

Innovations such as AI-driven personalization and gamification strategies further enhance the user experience. The players get personalized game recommendations along with dynamic rewards, keeping them fresh and excited about their gaming journey.

Building Communities Through Gaming

Social casino games are particularly successful due to their ability to give players a sense of belonging. Features such as in-game chat, multiplayer tournaments, and team challenges turn gaming into a communal experience. The focus on community makes social casinos far more inclusive than traditional gambling, resulting in their ability to attract a more diverse range of participants.

But the cultural phenomenon of social casinos extends beyond gameplay itself: players interact through forums, fan pages, or live events, creating subcultures based on their favorite platforms. These communities bring people together with shared interests, thereby further cementing these institutions as a part of cultural trends.

The Risk-Free Thrill of Gambling

One of the major drivers of the popularity of social casino games is the fact that they are risk-free. Gamers bet using virtual tokens, which eliminates the stress of losing real money. Consequently, users can enjoy the strategy and thrill of gambling without financial stress.

Online social casino platforms emphasize entertainment over monetary stakes, attracting users who prioritize fun and social connection. By maintaining this balance, social casinos have introduced gambling mechanics to a wider, more casual audience.

Pop Culture and Entertainment as Driving Forces

The fusion of gaming and entertainment has played a significant role in the cultural success of social casinos. Events such as Golden Age Thursday: GZA & Method Man Go “Shadowboxin” Liv showcase how these platforms collaborate with popular figures to create memorable experiences. Such partnerships resonate with fans and enhance the cultural relevance of social casinos.

While leveraging pop culture, social casinos transcend the traditional gaming world into a platform of entertainment, creativity, and nostalgia all- in-one unique blend that positions them as a vital modern digital cultural component.

The Future of Social Casino Games

The popularity of social casino gaming is increasing and doesn’t seem to stop. More immersive features, such as AR and VR, are expected with advancements in technology. Personalization, driven by data analytics and AI, will remain appealing to users and increase engagement.

Also, with the collaborations of cultural icons, musicians, and influencers, social casinos will be further embedded in the entertainment industry. In brief, such a platform will continue to dominate digital gaming by keeping pace with innovation.

Conclusion

Social casino games have gone beyond being a digital amusement; they represent a cultural phenomenon that marries gaming with entertainment. The games, if based on such a platform as an online social casino, come with a peculiar mix of thrill, fun, and community.\

In ways that will fundamentally change the concept of gaming, social casino games are sure to help shape the future of digital entertainment as they continue to evolve, bringing together technology, culture, and community.

The time has finally arrived for everyone’s favorite holiday tradition: The Best of Caustic 2024! It has been a long journey with plenty of magical releases that made the soundtrack to this year a beautiful and diverse one. Of all the Caustics done this year, picking 15 of the best is no easy task, and it’s easy to feel behind after only missing one week. That’s why we are proud to present the 15 most memorable songs to be featured on Caustic as we wrap up 2024 with a retrospective on all the wonderful music we had the honor of including in our weekly round-up. As always, thank you for tuning in weekly and sharing these listening experiences with us.

Without further ado, Glide presents our 15 greatest Caustic moments of 2024.

IDLES – “Roy”

TANGK

Post-punk icon IDLES inject soulful melodies and moments of gratitude on their ambitious and stunning new album, TANGK. Released in February, IDLES’s latest album is filled with sonic risks that pay off tremendously as the band weaves new sonic territories into their already uniquely fierce sound. “Roy” is just a hint at the new IDLES, a murky ballad with crescendos that burst like fireworks, only for things to settle into chugging minimalism quickly.

Amyl and The Sniffers – “Doing In Me Head”

Cartoon Darkness

Australian-based band Amyl and The Sniffers prove to be far more than the average punk enthusiast on their sprawling 2024 album, Cartoon Darkness. The tracklist shifts from subtle psychedelia to thrashing punk in the blink of an eye, allowing the band to keep one foot in their roots and another in their lofty sonic visions. “Doing In Me Head” leans more to the heavy punk side as dense distortion welcomes you to an acrobatic vocal performance that refreshingly delivers angsty poetry.

Angelo Outlaw – “Speed of Light”

Axis of Time

Philadelphia’s latest jazz sensation has provided us with another whimsical arrangement from his 2024 LP. Axis of Time is a landmark jazz release this year, and “Speed of Light,” a lead single from the album, further proves this sentiment. Melodies crash around you like the chlorine water after a cannonball as Outlaw arranges a free-flowing jazz instrumental that harkens back to the genre’s past as much as it looks toward the future.

Brittany Howard – “I Don’t”

What Now

The highly anticipated follow-up to her 2019 debut, Brittany Howard, proves her creativity to be limitless. What Now is a psychedelic soul outing that relies on tropes from gospel as much as it does extermination. “I Don’t” is just one example of why you should sprint to this record. Howard’s falsettos glide over a funky yet subtle arrangement for a listening experience more akin to watching a lava lamp than anything else.

DJ Harrison – “Together”

Shades of Yesterday

Butcher Brown’s DJ Harrison yet again ventures out on his own for an LP of covers, all lined with his unique take on modern jazz and soul. Released in February on Stones Throw Records, Shades of Yesterday is a delightfully light-hearted outing with covers of The Ohio Players and Donald Fagen. “Together” is Harrison’s stunning take on the Ohio Players classic as his vocal range reaches new heights over gentle horns and jazzy drums.

Man Man – “Cryptoad”

Carrot On Strings

The eccentric and unpredictable Man Man, led by Ryan Kattner, returns with another ambitious album to add to their ever-growing collage of a discography. Carrot On Strings has Kattner unleashing a world of heavy emotions over more traditional styles than fans might be used to, but don’t let that distract you from the magic of this LP. Man Man pieced together a kaleidoscope of an album Kattner uses to address seemingly every thought that crossed their mind. “Cryptoad” features sliding guitars that accent songwriting of not fitting in and never wanting to in the first place. It is about finding solace in being anti-social and growing tired of pretending.

Pissed Jeans – “Everywhere Is Bad”

Half Divorced

Pissed Jeans has found a way to elevate their ferocious punk and cheeky songwriting on their brand new album Half Divorced. The 12-track LP has the band navigating their chaotic textures with nuanced grace and blunt yet honest lyrics. “Everywhere Is Bad” is precisely how it sounds: larger-than-life guitar melodies crash around chanting melodies for a freight train of a song.

Shabaka – “End of Innocence”

Perceive its Beauty, Acknowledge its Grace

Jazz will always be in good hands as long as the fearlessly creative and ever-mind-expanding music of Shabaka is released. The artist has been involved in some of this generation’s most groundbreaking jazz music, and it is time for him to step into the spotlight on his new solo album. “End of Innocence” is one of the lead singles from Shabaka’s Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace, and is lined with gentle syncopation driven by Shabaka’s mesmerizing flute melodies.

Squid – “Crispy Skin”

Cowards

Post-punk provocateurs Squid return triumphantly with the announcement of their third studio album and a spellbinding lead single. Cowards is set to be released on February 7, and the six-minute sonic odyssey, “Crispy Skin,” is our first preview of the anticipated release. The lead single is an ever-evolving organism that keeps one foot in Squid’s past and another in the threshold of a more expansive sound. What starts as an ode to their previous releases slowly transitions into a looser and more melodic approach, allowing the band to begin preparing fans for the unexpected on Cowards.

Waxahatchee – “Lone Star Lake”

Tigers Blood

The new, highly anticipated Waxahatchee album was released in 2024 with a world-stopping and genre-shifting presence, and saying it didn’t disappoint would be an understatement. The artist’s unique take on modern country results in twangy guitar balladry and songwriting that reveals moving poetry. “Lone Star Lake” showcases the artist’s ability to craft and deliver a narrative via soul-baring melodies.

Melvins – “Allergic to Food”

Tarantula Heart

Melvins released a terrific LP deep into their career in 2024, and one of the lead singles continues to impress with every listen. “Allergic to Food” slams on the gas and doesn’t let go. Harmonious chaos explodes from the vocals with screeching guitar tones and neck-breaking drum patterns, all acting as a canvas for some poetically blunt songwriting.

Blvck Hippie – “Freeform Locs”

Basketball Camp

The highly anticipated sophomore effort from the Memphis alt-rock band Blvck Hippie made a splash in 2024, and it should be an album you quickly add to your “must listen” list before the year ends. Basketball Camp is an 11-song exploration into accepting the past and loving your present self. The band employs a wide range of rock stylings to deliver their uplifting message, and “Freeform Locs” leans to the side of a soft-rock ballad. A moving vocal performance that switches from a soothing serenade to a throat-scratching performance as masterful guitar work accents the warping vocals.

NxWorries – “KeepHer” (Feat. Thundercat)

Why Lawd?

After eight long years, the duo of Anderson .Paak and Knxwledge released one of the year’s most anticipated albums in the form of soulful, hip-hop-tinged balladry. Why Lawd wastes no time grabbing your attention. The 19-track LP showcases the maturity of both artists as Knxwledge’s sleek approach to production collides with .Paak’s poetic approach to braggadocious rhymes and love songs. “KeepHer” is a subtly groovy breakup tune with bassist Thundercat adding his prowess of the instrumental to juxtapose .Paak’s rugged delivery and heartbreaking lyrics.

Erick the Architect – “CA$HMERE TEAR$”

I’ve Never Been Here Before: The Director’s Cut

Earlier this year, Flatbush Zombies member Erick the Architect released his proper debut album to wide critical acclaim, and now we’re getting an expanded edition. I’ve Never Been Here Before: The Director’s Cut added more depth to an already sonic complex outing from a modern renaissance man, and “CA$HMERE TEAR$” is a stand-out single from the deluxe. The single has the artist delivering head-spinning rhyme schemes over a horn-driven instrumental for a song that could make waves in the 90s the same way it is destined to create a modern buzz for Erick the Architect.

Your Old Droog & Madlib – “DBZ” (Feat. Method Man & Denzel Curry)

Single

Initially, we speculated that this single would be a cut from the much talked-out Your Old Droog and Madlib collab album the two have been teasing for years. While the collaboration project didn’t come to fruition in 2024, Droog teamed up with Madlib for this particularly mesmerizing hip-hop performance. “DBZ” as Droog trading verses with two legends, Method Man and Denzel Curry, as the trio stunningly showcases their singularity.

It’s not every day that a group of pro athletes trades helmets and mouthguards for headphones and microphones, but for the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jason Kelce (retired), Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata, it’s become an annual holiday tradition. But this year’s A Philly Special Christmas Party, the group’s third and final record, isn’t your typical jock rock effort. For one, they’ve brought a murderer’s row of collaborators, including Stevie Nicks, Boyz II Men, Devon Gilfillian, and The Hooters’ Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman, as well as members of Mt. Joy, The War on Drugs, Dr. Dog, The Roots, and mewithoutYou. And on a likely-not-unrelated note, the album is genuinely enjoyable.

“It has been a joy to record these three albums, and I am thrilled that so many musicians chose to share their time and talents to help us create something truly special this holiday season,” says executive producer Connor Barwin, the Eagles’ Head of Football Development and Strategy, himself a retired defensive end. “I think people were excited to be a part of this after they heard the first record and how talented Jason, Jordan, and Lane are as singers.” Producer Charlie Hall (drummer, The War on Drugs) echoes these sentiments: “It’s been incredible to witness the generosity of spirit and outpouring of talent from the 50+ musicians who came together to make this third album our biggest and best yet.” The second single, a duet between Jason Kelce and Stevie Nicks on “Maybe This Christmas,” reached the top of the iTunes Holiday Chart, as did “Santa Drives an Astrovan,” featuring Mt. Joy. On the Billboard Charts, A Philly Special Christmas Party is #16 on the Billboard Top 200, #1 on the Independent Charts, #2 on the Holiday Charts, and #2 on the Vinyl Charts.

“I am still pinching myself that I got to be a part of such an amazing project,” says songwriter Devon Gilfillian. “I grew up in Philly, and I’ve been blown away by what this project can do: The Philly Special Christmas team has raised 4.5 million dollars to date, and has been able to support over 40 non-profits, including the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and The Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia.

“I loved getting to cover “Having A Party” with Jordan Malaita, he continues. “This track isn’t a traditional Christmas tune, but it has that special feeling of being at a holiday party with the people you love.”

But the magic of A Philly Special Christmas Party goes beyond the star-studded collaborations: shared passion and camaraderie shine through in every track. Take “Loud Little Town,” a song born from the bittersweet experience of a friend’s becoming an empty-nester that evolved into a heartfelt duet between Jason and Kylie Kelce, showcasing the emotional depth and personal connection woven into the music. The album’s production served as a further testament to this collaborative spirit: Hall and Barwin fostered an environment where the pros, players and musicians alike, could seamlessly blend their talents, and the result is an album that feels both polished and personal, a testament to the power of music to bring people together.

And while their first two releases topped the charts and garnered critical acclaim, they’re really in it for charity. The first two Philly Special Christmas albums raised about $4 million for local charities like the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s (CHOP) Snowflake Station and Children’s Crisis Treatment Center, and this year, they’ve partnered with The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia to include their most ambitious fundraiser yet: Operation Snowball, a citywide initiative to provide a holiday gift to every student in the city’s public school system. It’s a heartwarming goal that embodies the spirit of the holiday season and showcases the Philly Specials’ dedication to making a tangible difference in their community. (The Specials will also make their annual donation to CHOP’s Snowflake Station and CCTC’s Toy Drive.)

Operation Snowball is a true community effort, with support from prominent figures like former pro soccer player Carli Lloyd, Philly 76er Jared McCain, and rapper Gillie Da King. Says Barwin: “I can’t wait to deliver the presents with the guys later this month and be part of the magic of the season.” Every contribution snowballs into a brighter holiday season for Philly’s children, and you can join the movement and help make the project’s goal a reality. Purchase the album or merch, or donate directly to The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia.

As the Specials release their final holiday album, they leave behind a legacy of giving and a blueprint for how athletes can use their platform to make a positive impact. They’ve raised millions of dollars, brought joy to countless fans, and inspired a spirit of generosity that will hopefully continue to snowball for years to come. A Philly Special Christmas Party is more than just an album; it’s a celebration of community, compassion, and the enduring magic of the holiday season.

For our 22nd version of The Glide 20- best albums of the year list, the names that came up were suddenly ones of artists we didn’t think might ever appear on a year-end again: The Cure, David Gilmour to ones we know won’t be for the final time: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Ty Segall, and Billy Strings. Also, in between, some artists might have made their most career-defining statements, like MJ Lenderman (pictured) with Manning Fireworks and Waxahatchee for Tigers Blood. So with the variety tuned into what we cover the most, here is the Glide 20 for 2024, with 20 honorable mentions (all in alphabetical order).

Aaron Frazer – Into The Blue

Soul music is inspiring, and Aaron Frazer is a big reason. The multi-hyphenate artist has spent years learning how to perfect that nostalgic, sinfully sweet sound the genre is known for, only to create his latest project, Into The Blue, which breaks all the rules. The sprawling and experimental effort has Frazer blending his passion for Hip-hop with his natural knack for crafting infectious melodies that harken back to his heroes while keeping Frazer planted firmly in the present with a vulture-like gaze on the future.

Amyl and the Sniffers- Cartoon Darkness

Underneath the surface, Cartoon Darkness is an experimental punk album. Amyl and The Sniffers pieced together a head-spinning tracklist that transitions from slow-burning psychedelia to the blistering punk fans have come to expect from the band, but Cartoon Darkness is not about what you desire; It’s about the current moment. Even during those moments when the band slips back into their old punk tricks, feel elevated as the searing guitars and acrobatic vocals elevate Amyl and The Sniffers’s fast-paced brand of punk. This is the band as you’ve never heard them before, and they sound better than ever.

Billy Strings  – Highway Prayers

While Highway Prayers may surprise some fans due to its genuine old-school bluegrass environs, it ultimately stands as another testament to Strings’ unmatched artistic genius. Highway Prayers is a marked departure from his previous releases and takes on a “quality not quantity” approach to the song lengths, focusing on more traditional-leaning material in which none of the tracks surpass the six-minute mark and over half clock in at under four minutes.

Bonny Light Horseman –  Keep Me on Your Mind/See You Free

The core trio of Eric D. Johnson, Anaïs Mitchell, and Josh Kaufman reinvent their soaring harmonies with a masterful 20-track album. The trio touches into Celtic folk, Jazz, 60s vocal harmonies, and plenty of songwriting genius with experimental touches. This attention to sonic details and layers of instrumental touches, combined with the harmonious vocal connection, deft songwriting, and easy-rolling charm, makes Keep Me on Your Mind/See You Free Bonny Light Horseman’s one of the most adventurous and melodic albums of the past year.

Brittany Howard –  What Now

In 2019, Brittany Howard’s fantastic debut solo record Jaime was a genre-defying coming-out party. That exciting sense that anything can happen at any moment is alive and vibrant throughout this even better follow-up. Gone is the retro rock of The Alabama Shakes, and in its place is a radiating neon kaleidoscope of Afrofuturism. Supremely excellent pop bangers nestle next to soul ballads and collide with jazzy flights of fancy as speaker-shaking low-end, distorted synths, slapping percussion, and prayer bowls wander in and out wonderfully over twelve riveting tracks.

The Cure  –Songs of A Lost World

The Cure breaks a 16-year new album silence with the release of Songs Of A Lost World. The 8-song outing has the iconic band blending their gothic tones with a theatrical flair, giving these songs a sense of urgency as The Cure’s bleak viewpoints are delivered via a familiar yet improved Cure sound. This late-career highlight doesn’t often happen as The Cure enters their golden era and are adored as much as ever.

David Gilmour – Luck & Strange

While most people consider the Endless River Pink Floyd’s final statement, this fourth solo album from one of the most critical voices and soloists in rock history leaves where The Division Bell left off. He didn’t have to gift us a new album, soaring guitar solos, and that soothing, distinguished vocals style that laid the soundtrack for many a casual or avid rock listener.

Geordie Greep – The New Sound

Former Black Midi member Geordie Greep wastes no time diving into his solo discography as the frontman releases The New Sound. The sound in question is a daring and ever-growing effort to push the boundaries of post-rock to the furthest and most nuanced corners, and these eleven songs show us that the mission is a success. “As If Waltz” is a nearly eight-minute outing that emphasizes Greep’s cartoonish approach to rock music with tempo and tone changes that can only be described as whimsical.

Gillian Welch & David Rawlings – Woodland

On Woodland, the delicate duo dives head first into simplistic yet powerful folk with nothing to prove to anyone. This might be why their latest album is brimming with vivid storytelling that fills the sonic void left by Rawlings’s guitar’s sparse acoustics. “North Country” takes you on a twangy trip through the South as Welch’s storytelling abilities take center stage, while the warmth of the arrangement creates a hazy fog of folksy tropes.

The Hard  Quartet – The Hard Quartet

The Hard Quartet brings together four veterans hellbent on challenging themselves to create a comprised of Emmet Kelly, Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, and Jim White. The sprawling effort has the band diving into nostalgic Brit-pop and modern hard rock all the same, using their confessional songwriting as a connective tissue between the sonic realms.

Jessica Pratt – Here in the Pitch

Jessica Pratt continues to build a discography of touching poetry and moving vocal performances on her latest release. Here in the Pitch is a quick and powerful LP. Standing at only nine songs, Pratt ensured no second was wasted. “Better Hate” has the artist exploring the complexity of longing, delivering her lyrics on a bed of ambiance that quickly shifts to experimental folk-pop.

Johnny Blue Skies Passage du Desir

Sturgill Simpson’s name won’t have to do any heavy lifting as he created a new persona, Johnny Blue Skies, while sounding like his classic Country records. Simpson’s core is mixing outlaw-based country with classic Nashville pop and slightly psychedelic flourishes. Those ingredients are all in play here to varying degrees, and while it seems he will never leave Country behind, the most successful efforts on Passage Du Desir are the least beholden to the genre.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard- Flight b741

The prolific Aussies made their most accessible album yet, where classic rock melodies, country twang experiments, and different band members taking various lead vocal duties fill up this album. The band sacrifices their love for challenging sonics for soaring harmonies that accent subtle nods to Western nostalgia while filling the room with glorious arrangements, creating a tight and consistently entertaining tracklist that still finds ways to shock and amaze.

Los Bitchos  – Talkie Talkie

Drenched in swirling reverb, the atmosphere evoked by Talkie Talkie is lush and cinematic – whiffs of surf rock, loping Latin drums, and shiny, liquid guitar twangs. A dozen tracks highlight on Talkie Talkie including “Hi!,” with its bluesy, psychedelia-lace guitars riding a Latin-lite funk rhythm. In contrast, the rest of the album encompasses an all-around blast of kinetic rhythmic energy.

Man Man – Carrot On Strings

By diving into the familiar, Man Man emerges with something alien. Carrot on Strings may appear like an amalgamation of lofty ideas upon first listen, but a more profound concept must be digested here. By borrowing from the sonic worlds he has orbited for so long, Ryan Kattner was able to look more inward. By allowing themselves to work outside their usual parameters, Man Man created an album that is stubbornly present and wickedly honest for an outing that welcomes confusion and thrives on raw honesty.

Melissa Carper- Borned In Ya

The ever-expanding Western-fusion work of Melissa Carper has the artist blending Americana, blues, and subtle notes of jazz. Borned In Ya, is a hazy lo-fi folk outing with sentimental songwriting delivered with a quaint charm over the dusty twang of the arrangements. “There’ll Be Another One” sounds like a ballad straight out of an old Cowboy film, while her signature vocal tones evoke pure nostalgia as an ever-growing arrangement gives “There’ll Be Another One” a modern twist.

MJ Lenderman – Manning Fireworks

Manning Fireworks, the follow-up to 2022’s Boat Songs, has solidified him into the realm of Kurt Vile and Kevin Morby. This debut on ANTI is an unpretentious affair, filled with plenty of sly, witty humor and underdog energy. Mellow, sometimes bordering on melancholy, the wit in his lyrics is balanced out by sadness and starkness on a lot of the music, which plays like a long-lost Neil Young album.

Sheer Mag – Playing Favorites

Sheer Mag makes music that inspires you to have fun. It sure sounds like they had a blast recording their new record. Playing Favorites is an infectious country-rock album with anthems galore. There is something for everyone on here. “I Gotta Go” is for the hopeless romantics. The band creates an irresistible arrangement to croon about star-crossed lovers and the longing that comes with it.

Ty Segall – Three Bells

TySegall’s imaginative world of psychedelic garage rock seems to make a hyperbolized impression of itself on Three Bells. Segall is your shaman throughout Three Bells; his vocals float above these unpredictably dense arrangements and act as a guiding hand through complex rhythms and contradicting melodies. Segall created an album that leans into his loftiest ideas while making it sound human and present.

Waxahatchee – Tigers Blood

Katie Crutchfield’s unique take on modern country results in twangy guitar balladry and songwriting that reveals moving poetry. His first record for the Anti-label is a dozen laid-back, breezy singalongs sung over acoustic guitars, pianos, and the occasional banjo and dobro, where her most immediate artist statement has been made.
