Ensuring that a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or electric vehicle (EV) is charged and ready for work is of vital business importance. Having access to the best charging solutions is key for any enterprise that wishes to maximise productivity. At Allen Ford, Essex Ford and SMC Ford, we help facilitate a range of charging options for businesses that drive Ford commercial PHEVs and / or EVs.
What Affects EV Range?
There are many reasons why stated manufacturer EV ranges are not always achievable. Here are the three most common causes.
Heavy acceleration and high speeds – either of whichrequires a lot of battery power and therefore has a negative impact on range.
Climate and temperature – extreme hot or cold external temperatures are a drain on battery power. For instance, the former tends to result in high air-conditioning usage, which requires battery power. On the other hand, during particularly cold spells, EV batteries need to heat themselves to operate efficiently – while in-cabin heating is an additional demand on battery power.
Payload – the more weight a vehicle carries, the more energy is required. This applies to cargo primarily, but crew numbers can have an effect too.
