When New Orleans drummer Stanton Moore links up with L.A. Hammond B3 ace Robert Walter and two of Seattle’s finest, guitarist Andy Coe and saxophone alchemist Skerik, good things are bound to happen. Those in the sold-out crowd at Portland’s The Get Down were anticipating some heady jam magic and they were not disappointed. Go down a rabbit hole following any of these musicians’ careers and you’ll be met with a who’s who of funk, soul, jazz, and rock artists, from The Meters and Maceo Parker to Steward Copeland and Roger Waters.
The two sets included takes on Moore and Walter compositions, old funk standards and even an instrumental encore of Led Zeppelin’s “Good Times, Bad Times.”
